VERSE
Life is short, but it's very long, as well
I believe in Heaven; it's sad about Hell
We've had a great life where the peaceful waters flow
Now there's some things I want you to know
VERSE
Too many days and way too many nights
You were here to your sacrifice
Time is movin' on, and the words are comin' slow
But, babe, how I want you to know
CHORUS
That I know you were here when life started closin' in
I know you were here since I can't remember when
No matter what, I've known all along
You were here
VERSE
I'm seein' now a place very far away
Where I'll be goin' later today
But before I know it's time for me to go
Babe, I want you to know
Repeat CHORUS/BRIDGE
I've received permission to say these things to you
More than any wish I have left, I hope you know
Repeat CHORUS/TAG
I've always known you were here, and I love you

Story Behind the Song: When my wife of 40 years was in her last days, she made a point of thanking me for what I had done for her over the seven years of her progressive cancer. I loved her very much so thanks was needed but it was, of course, much appreciated. I wrote this song for a male to sing, but it obviously would apply the other way around.
