Twenty-Two (Americana)
|

|

|
Verse
When I held you near life was clear
You and me against the world, forevermore
But then that entirely intoxicating atmosphere
Gave way to the guy from next door
Verse
Now I have lived my life with no apology
I have so wanted to see you through the years
And now thanks to all these new realities
I just saw your face and I'm holding back tears
Chorus
There was magic in the air the day we met
I'd never seen a girl lovely as you
It was a time I will never forget
I wish I was still twenty-two
Verse
There may be nothing ever come of this
Unless you discover from this song
That I need to be saved from this dark abyss
If you choose come back to me where you belong
Repeat Chorus/Tag
I wish I was still twenty-two

Story Behind the Song: Personal story. Was thinking about my first-love college girlfriend. The "guy next door" in the song asked her to marry him the same day I asked her. Long story short, she married him (it didn't last). I had moved on but must admit I've thought about her through the years. The part about needing to be saved, I didn't mean literally.
