The Drive-In

Lyrics
VERSE
Four of us headin' for the drive-in
Plannin' to get a little drunk
Two of us ridin' in the front seat
Two of us hidin' in the trunk

VERSE
Him and her holdin' tight to the bottle
You and me payin' for the show
Nobody knows what the movie is
But we all know where we want to go

VERSE
Two hearts makin' out in the front seat
Two hearts makin' out in the back
Four hearts hittin' all those extra beats
It may end with a heart attack

CHORUS
(Yeah) Here's to longin' for the good old days
When havin' fun was back-seat makin' out
Friends were forever and always
What the hell is this new world all about?
Sometimes we frosted up the windshield
Sometimes we had to turn the cool air on
I'm gettin' close to bein' ready to go
Back to that drive-in picture show

RIDE

VERSE
Damn the luck, here comes intermission
Him and me sent to get some ice
Quickly back to the fishin' expedition
Searchin' for the key to paradise

VERSE
Got my thumb bent back almost double
When she thought I went a little far
Steering wheel gave me lots of trouble
But thank the Lord for the family car

VERSE
Window speaker playin' just loud enough
To cover up our whispers to the girls
Soft drink mixin' with the hard stuff
And all is right with the world

Repeat CHORUS (2x)

TAG
Yeah, right back to that drive-in picture show

Description
Short Song Description:
One couple driving in to the drive-in, the other hiding in the trunk with the bottle. Once inside and parked, the adventures begin.
Long Song Description:
One couple driving in to the drive-in, the other hiding in the trunk with the bottle. Once inside and parked, the adventures begin. Making out, mixing drinks, getting told "no," etc.
Story Behind the Song:
My co-writer and I were reminiscing about high school when one of us mentioned sneaking into the drive-in theater. We were admiring the innocence of the time (mid-60s) and wishing it could be like that again.
