You Were Here

Lyrics
VERSE
Life is short, but it's very long, as well
I believe in Heaven; it's sad about hell
We've had a great life where the peaceful waters flow
Now there's some things I want you to know

VERSE
Too many days and way too many nights
You were here to your sacrifice
Time is movin' on, and the words are comin' slow
But, babe, how I want you to know

CHORUS
That I know you were here when life started closin' in
I know you were here since I can't remember when
No matter what, I've known all along
You were here

VERSE
I'm seein' now a place very far away
Where I'll be goin' later today
But before I know it's time for me to go
Babe, I want you to know

Repeat CHORUS

BRIDGE
I've received permission to say these things to you
More than any wish I have left, I hope you know

Repeat CHORUS

TAG
I've always known you were here, and I love you

Description
Short Song Description:
A man letting his wife (or loved one) know that he knew that person was there with him through his struggles though he could not physically acknowledge that.
Long Song Description:
A man letting his wife (or loved one) know that he knew that person was there with him through his struggles though he could not physically acknowledge that. He tells her he knew she was there all along, and he tells her he'll be going to Heaven soon but that he has been given permission to let her know he knew she was there. He tells her he loves her and passes on.
Story Behind the Song:
For several years before my father passed away, he did not know his family and could not communicate at all. My mother visited him almost every day for that entire period. I believe he knew she was there. And I believe he communicated to her in his final hours the message in this song.
